Career History

Assistant Vice President, Universal North America, 2012-Present. Directed Risk Management and Actuarial departments for North American subsidiary of Universal Group.

  • Mitigate catastrophe risk through design and purchase of reinsurance program and concentration analysis of growing homeowners book of business.

  • Manage and direct ratemaking and filing requirements for eight states.

  • Manage risk and concentration of MGA generated homeowners book in 16 states.

  • Work with claims and financial departments as well as external appointed actuary to estimate reserves for company financial statements.

Manager, Catastrophe and Risk Analysis, Homesite Group Inc, 2000-2010. Managed all catastrophe related risk, including reinsurance purchasing. Managed corporate loss reserving including year end financial reporting (Schedule P).

  • Designed and implemented Catastrophe Risk Management plan for $400 Million Homeowners insurance book of business. Convinced Senior Management to balance potential growth in riskiest geographies until sustainable rates were in place.
  • Developed and implemented proprietary Wildfire risk model for California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Recently evaluated and negotiated move to purchasing external data to expand model coverage to 13 western states.
  • Successfully negotiated and purchased Catastrophe Excess of Loss protection as well as Per Risk reinsurance at favorable prices over the course of the past five years. Most recently, purchased $250 Million of catastrophe coverage.
  • Analyzed potential reinsurance contracts from cost/benefit and corporate risk tolerance points of view.
  • Developed reinsurance cost allocation methodology to appropriately apportion reinsurance costs and retained capital costs to state and other arbitrary subgroups.
  • Managed all catastrophe modeling activity for Homesite including quarterly analysis of portfolio, including trend analysis and projection.
  • Managed overall corporate reserve process to maintain conservative financial position.
